Canadian-born R&B singer Keisha Chante has been tapped to portray the late Aaliyah in a biopic recounting the life and untimely death of the hip-hop and R&B artist.
The film is scheduled for release next year.
Although Chante's acting resume is a short one, she has starred in a number of independent flicks and boasts a 2006 R&B album out called 2U with another on the way.
Sources say she was selected for her striking resemblance to the multi Grammy-nominated Aaliyah.
Hmmm.. Interesting. I wondered how long would it take for a movie to be made about Aaliyah. It should be interesting; but ONLY if they tell the real story about her, and the R. Kelly situation. I mean, other than that, I don't know what her movie could be about. She stayed out of the tabloids -for the most part- and she was pretty much a good girl. But maybe there was a side we didn't know??? Keisha eerily looks like her and I also always thought that if an Aaliyah movie should be made, Chante should play her. I've never seen her act, though. hmmm... Let's see if the movie will be named after one of her songs. I'm thinking "One In A Million"??
Beyonce performed on of my all-timeFAVORITE songs, "The Way We Were", at the Kennedy Honors - which aired tonight. The song was made famous by the astonishing Barbara Streisand for the movie of the same title. Beyonce is becoming a regular at the Kennedy's, it seems. Not forgetting her arousing tribute of "Proud Mary" for the QUEEN TINA TURNER! :-)
Before Cater 2 U, there was 'Something He Could FEEL!'
just WORK en vogue!!!!!!!! here they are performing their cover of the Curtis Mayfield classic, way back in the day, on the Arsenio Hall show. From their vocals, to the movements, to those GLOVES! sigh....
Looks like Beyonce is putting out a song that would hopefully get the Obama camps attention for this ole inauguration that will be happening in a matter of a few weeks. She recorded a version of "Proud To Be An American" and in true Beyonce fashion, she does what she does best, SING! lol... reminds me of those Overton Show Choir days. HELP US!!!
there are two women in the world whose voices can make me melt into some sort of dream state while i'm wide awake. those two people are anita baker and sade. but since this post is about anita, i'm gonna make it about her. you see, anita reminds me of young memphis. when i say young memphis, i mean the memphis when i would spend the days/nights with grandaddy rev and go cruising in his mercedes while he would have miss baker playing. granddaddy rev was the reason i fell in love with anita. "body and soul". sigh.... "don't leave me out in the cold, just love me body and soul". i had NO idea what that meant but i did know that one day, i would. well, i do. hmph.
Miss Baker was born January 26, 1958 in Toledo, Ohio and she is an eight-time Grammy Award-winning, multi-Platinum rhythm and blues and soul singer and songwriter. [WORK!] To date, Baker has four Platinum albums and three Gold albums to her credit. This year, she embarked on a concert tour, entitled "An Evening with Anita Baker". Her performance at DTE Energy Music Theater on July 12, 2008, was recorded and Baker has announced plans to release a new DVD and/or CD live album in early 2009. I can't wait. she is truly a phenomenal singer, songwriter, and musician. my hat tips to her.
download these : angel, body and soul, caught up in the rapture, giving you the best that i got, good love
I have waited so long to finally see a movie that removes me, mentally and emotionally, from my current state and transports me into the screen. I felt as though I was there with him; sitting in his motel room as he attempts to find the pieces to his complex puzzle. The music was amazing. It fit oh so perfectly. If you have an ear for music, you will know exactly what I'm talking about. The music captured every emotion; whether sad, it made it that much sadder. Intense, with music - intensified. A
Seems like Brandy was NOT playing around when it came to studio time for her project. Here is yet another unreleased track from her amazingHuman album produced by Brian Kennedy [Jennifer Hudson - "If This Isn't Love"]. ENJOY!
This was probably the most fulfilling Christmas i've had in a long while. Probably because I came without any expectations, solely to be in the company, and enjoy, my family and friends.
*The "Night at PF" will be a night that will go down in history, thanks to Amber, Shena, and Ashley. [HA! It's amazing what secrets and liquor will do.]
*The day 'shopping' with George was full of what we do best, slaying.

Jennifer Hudson, Coldplay, Adele, and JoshGroban will perform at the 2009 MusiCares person of the year gala on Feb. 6 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. As previously reported, MusiCares, the charitable arm of the Recording Academy, will honor Neil Diamond at this year's event.
it's such a shame that someone as beautiful and as talented as this WOMAN here doesn't get the same recognition as some of the other temporary singers out here. she's the definition of raw talent. but hey, that's the nature of the business. tamia, just sing!
"Happy Birthday, Peter Pan! It's time to GROW UP!!!!"
Those words, from Dorothy - of Golden Girls, still ring true in my ears. At the time, the words hit home because they were directed towards Stanley, her inconsiderate and foolish husband. This time, the words are directed at me.
I've realized that I've got some growing up to do myself. How can I expect someone else to be ready, if I'm not? [It just won't work.] The good thing, though, is that it's all a part of life. You live and you learn.
"A man's maturity consists in having found again the seriousness one had as a child, at play." - Friedrich Nietzsche
"Mountaintops inspire leaders but valleys mature them." - Winston Churchill
“Maturity is: The ability to stick with a job until it's finished; The ability to do a job without being supervised; The ability to carry money without spending it; and The ability to bear an injustice without wanting to get even.” - Abigail Van Buren
wow... ten years ago, The Boy Is Mine, dominated the charts. Now, the two ladies that made it #1 and garnered a Grammy, reunite - at a dingy nightlub - to relive the moments. :-)
i would LOVE to see this on a major show. someday, somehow, somewhere.
look-a-here... Here's a FULL clip of one of my performances. This was recorded during a live taping at the 4th Annual: Candle on the Bluff Awards honoring Dr. King.
I was backed by an amazing combination of the Morehouse College and University of Memphis Jazz Bands. My brother, Kameron, is also playing the trombone directly behind me. Awesome!!!! Anykadoodle, here's the song:
Academy Award winner Halle Berry will join actor/producer Tyler Perry in hosting the NAACP Image Awards on February 12.
The NAACP's executive director in Hollywood, Vicangelo Bulluck, pointed out that this year's show date coincides exactly with the 100th Anniversary of the NAACP. "This year's Image Awards is not just a special event, it is an historic occasion, and I hope all Americans will tune in. With Halle and Tyler as our hosts, I know our viewers are going to get a spectacular show," Bulluck said.
Nominations for the annual awards show, which recognizes the artistic achievements of people of color and honors projects and individuals that promote diversity in the arts, will be announced Wednesday, Jan. 7 in Los Angeles. Performers and presenters for the show have yet to be named.
The "40th NAACP Image Awards" will be broadcast live on FOX from Los Angeles' historic Shrine Auditorium on Feb. 12.
Another interpretation of the "Single Ladies" song has emerged. some "SAVED" folks got together and sang their favorite "behind closed doors" SEX MUSIC!
lol... check this interview i found on YBF.com of Jamie Foxx KNOCKING Terrance Howard.
I've never been a fan of Jamie, but this is HILARIOUS!!! Especially when he was imitating his voice. Wow. However, hold your tongue buddy until your album reviews come in....
HELLS yeah! The trailer for the May 1st release of X-Men Origins series leaked. This movie centers around probably the most popular character in the X-Men franchise, Wolverine. I'm especially excited to see this because during the entire X-Men trilogy, I wondered "When will they introduce Gambit?" Remy LeBeau is the bomb. I love his card tricks. Hott ish!!!! Also, it's also interesting to see how he met Storm. Look out for "baby Halle" in the clip, as well. X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE HD
Here's my girl Brandy performing on the Today Show. Her live vocals are amazing, I must say. Check it out:
Right Here [Departed]:
Long Distance:
Good stuff. Brandy has NEVER disappointed me. IMO, she's the definition of a true artist. She evolves with every album. Her voice, when I thought couldn't get any better, does. She's the bomb!
Jennifer Hudson has cancelled the first video shoot scheduled since the October deaths of her mother, brother and nephew, a source tells Usmagazine.com.
The Oscar winner, 27, planned on shooting the clip for "If It Isn't Love" in L.A. next week, her J Records rep confirmed to the Associated Press Dec. 9.
But "the video was set up before the tragedy and she felt like she should finish what she started, but she's realized that she's not ready to go back to work," a source tells Us.
"It's too early," the source adds.
A personal rep for Hudson, however, calls the original video plans "speculation."
"The video shoot was never confirmed, so there was nothing to cancel," the rep tells Usmagazine.com. "[J Records' statement] was erroneous."
Darnell Donerson, 57; brother, Jason, 29, and 7-year-old nephew, Julian King, were fatally shot in Chicago Oct. 24. William Balfour -- the estranged husband of Jennifer's sister, Julia -- was charged with the murders Dec. 2.
man, i'm sad. its understandable that she would cancel it, but i was definitely looking forward to the video. Regardless, take your time Jennifer. You'll get through this.
CASSiES BACK... and this time, she's doing what she should have been doing in the FiRST place. Making music 4 luv'n. LoL.. Cuz this ish right here.... yeah, its on some Janet type stuff. LOVE IT!!!
Now I'm not sure whether this is NEW or old, however its rumored that this is a track that will be off a new project they are working on. For the record, ALL voices are on it [including the booted members D. Woods and Aubrey.] the song is a BANGER!!!! COME ON DK!!!!!
According to theybf.com, Usher and Tameka have welcomed a new baby into the world. I'm sure there will be details later so be sure to check around the net and let me know. :-)
ET has confirmed that "90210" will introduce a gay character.
Lauren London, who was seen flirting outrageously with Dixon (Tristan Wilds) on the last new episode of "90210" to air, will be coming out on the Jan. 6 episode.
London's character, Christina, will have a girlfriend, but, according to TV Guide, she is going to be bisexual, which may make a triangle with Dixon and Silver (Jessica Stroup).
"90210" airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m.
hmmm... good that she's getting work. i don't mind, AT ALL, seeing her beatness all over my tv box. However, it's always interesting when the media makes a big deal about someone portraying a gay character. i mean, really, does it even matter? Will being either way take away from his or her talent? [r.e.] i wonder how many gays, in real life, are playing straight on tv. now THATS something that would be interesting. yet, still, it doesn't/shouldn't matter. :-)
Two popular names in the R&B world about to drop their latest albums. Keyshia Cole and Avant are, IMO, the essence of true R&B. Imperfect, raw, and soulful [in every sense of the word.]
Keyshia Cole's new disc A Different Me basically picks up where Just Like You leaves off. After the disaster that was her Star-Spangled Banner performance, it's clearly evident that she is better at being a 'studio singer' cuz her songs are bang-ING! hmmm... but after all, every performer has their ons and offs. In true Keyshia fashion, she sticks with that she knows best, drumming bass lines and infectious hooks - just listen to the intro to the damn album. she kills! Keyshia seems to branch out, a little, on this album. Her song "This Is Us" is more pop influenced and actually works for Little Miss Keyshia. A Different Me hits stores Dec. 16.
Avant is back with his fifth album, the self-titled, Avant. With two certified platinum and two gold albums under his belt, he's sticking to what he knows, [which he should], the straight-up R&B sound. The first single off the album, "When It Hurts", has reached number 18 on the US R&B/Hip-Hop charts. However, on certain songs like Perfect Gentleman, I can't help but here left-over Usher material. Avant's album is in stores now.
Here is Beyonce's spread in Elle magazine. Thanks to "THE RESOURCE QUEEN", SHANITA, i was able to quickly post these too hot to trot pics of Mrs. Carter. Beyonce's doing it up, and i'm not even mad. I don't know too many people, scratch that, ANYONE who has had themselves - plus their alter ego - featured on a magazine. WOOOORK, B!!!!
All things LOVE, baby!
So yeah, this isn't a blog to be taken seriously, really. Its just kinda of like my "public diary" to my family and friends. You're gonna see a lot of J. Hud & Beyonce, but that's just me. :-D hey, you gotta LOVE me!!!
