MGM and the Farrelly brothers are closing in on their cast for "The Three Stooges."
Studio has set Sean Penn to play Larry, and negotiations are underway with Jim Carrey to play Curly, with the actor already making plans to gain 40 pounds to approximate the physical dimensions of Jerome "Curly" Howard.
The studio is zeroing in on Benicio Del Toro to play Moe.
The film is not a biopic, but rather a comedy built around the antics of the three characters that Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Howard played in the Columbia Pictures shorts.
Fox has not yet confirmed the news, but Jennifer Hudson will be taping a performance for a future American Idol episode.
Jennifer Hudson will tape the performance after this week’s results show, with the ticket for AI reading, a “second taping of Wednesday is the LIVE performance show with special performances by Jennifer Hudson and Ruben Studdard.”
Jennifer Hudson will also appear on Thursday’s (March 26) Ellen DeGeneres.

Oscar nominee Anne Hathaway is taking on yet another challenging role as reports say she is set to play renowned actress Judy Garland.Work it out then ANNE! That's a good look for her. Wow... I smell Oscar for this one. :-)
Author Gerald Clark's bio of Garland, titled Get Happy, is being adapted by the Weinstein Company, Variety reports. Harvey Weinstein said the bio "is particularly outstanding because of its exclusive details from her own writings."
Weinstein also commented on Hathaway's role in the movie, saying she "will be a true class act in this challenging role."
